Restart Tuscaloosa invested over $14 million between 2020 and 2022 into public safety, neighborhoods, small businesses, the experience economy, and local agencies. The program helped stabilize Tuscaloosa’s economy in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic by supporting local businesses and neighborhoods.

Small Business

Helped local businesses impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic by investing $1 million into the West Alabama Chamber of Commerce’s Small Business Relief Fund.  

A second round of over $300,000 was provided to lounge establishments impacted by public health closures. This funding was distributed to businesses through the city's Lounge Assistance Program.


66 local roads, sidewalks, and drainage projects received $7 million of improvements over two years to keep neighborhoods in top condition.

Experience Economy

$2.6 million was invested in tourism and sports to enhance Tuscaloosa’s experience economy, including live music, events, festivals, and sports.

Public Safety

$4 million was invested into equipment, vehicles, and cyber technology.
