Summary

The vision of Elevate Tuscaloosa is to establish McAbee Center as an elite wellness destination for actively aging adults. The City of Tuscaloosa is currently in discussions with existing and potential partners to establish the specific programs and organizations that will be a part of upgrading the center to achieve this vision. Updates will be provided here as the details take shape.


Opened in 1997, the McAbee Center houses PARA recreational amenities and programs, as well as the offices of FOCUS 50+. Founded in 1973, FOCUS 50+ provides a variety of activities and services to meet the needs of residents aged 50 and older, enabling them to remain active, independent, and healthy.  FOCUS 50+ provides programs including exercise, dancing lessons, card/board games, quilting, knitting, chess, singing groups, health education, financial planning, and holiday parties.

  • Provide elite services, programs, and facilities that contribute significantly to the quality of life of Tuscaloosa’s residents over 50
